Beginning Friday, U.S. citizens will be allowed to go to Cuba and spend money there without special license from the government, the Obama administration said today.
The administration announced the new regulations a month after President Obama declared the effective end of a more-than-50-year-old embargo against Cuba.
Airlines and travel agents will no longer need special U.S. government licenses to provide trips to Cuba, and rules for businesses, including banks and telecoms, will also be eased.
U.S. citizens will be able to send up to $2,000 to Cuba every 3 months, up from $500, and will be able to bring back up to $400 in goods, including $100 in tobacco and alcohol.
