NEW ORLEANS (CN) - New Orleans police officers killed a man by shooting him 14 times - 11 shots from the back - as he sat peacefully in his car on New Year's Day, his family claims in Federal Court. Christopher Grimes, who had no police record, came for a reunion after his family was dispersed by Hurricane Katrina. The family says the police covered up the killing with a series of false, inflammatory statements and still refuse to release information about it.
The family sued New Orleans Police Chief Warren Riley, the City of New Orleans, the NOPD and police officers to be named later, as the city won't release any information about them. The family is represented by Betsy Barnes with Barnes & Root.
