John Roth, the mayor of Mahwah, New Jersey, faces a federal complaint from his predecessor, William Laforet, over a summons Laforet received for hanging an American flag from his business. Alleging political retribution, Laforet says there is no ordinance against hanging flags on property, and no other summons for flag diplays have been issued in the entire township.

NEWARK, N.J. — John Roth, the mayor of Mahwah, New Jersey, faces a federal complaint from his predecessor, William Laforet, over a summons Laforet received for hanging an American flag from his business. Alleging political retribution, Laforet says there is no ordinance against hanging flags on property, and no other summons for flag diplays have been issued in the entire township.
