Nevada Senator Says Opponent Libeled Him

LAS VEGAS (CN) - Nevada Sen. Bob Beers' opponent libeled him in attack ads that falsely claimed he was under review by the Nevada Ethics Commission, the Republican claims in Clark County Court.

Beers says his Democratic opponent, Allison Copening, and the state Democratic party sent out thousands of two-page fliers to Nevada residents in the last four days of campaigning that falsely indicated that Beers was "Under Ethics Commission Review" for his actions as a senatorial candidate.

Beers says he was never under investigation by the commission.

He called the fliers a "pitiful attempt to sway the election," and says Copening "made up an entirely fabricated story that was the product of her imagination."

Beers seeks damages and attorney's fees. He is represented by Craig Mueller of Mueller Hinds.
