NCAA Athletes

OAKLAND, Calif. - Electronic Arts moved Tuesday to dismiss the latest version of claims that its use of student-athletes' names and likenesses amounts to an antitrust conspiracy with the National Collegiate Athletic Association and Collegiate Licensing Co.

The motion came the same day that U.S. District Judge Claudia Wiken granted EA and the NCAA leave to file. That same ruling denied the NCAA's motion for additional briefing and CLC's motion to strike.

"The court is reluctant to delay this case further, but finds itself compelled to allow an additional round of motions, albeit on prompt and restricted additional briefing, due to defendants' insistence on pursuing all available procedural steps, and the untimely changes in plaintiffs' theory of the case," she wrote.
