(CN) - A Raleigh, N.C., man faces up to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists.
Prosecutors said that beginning in about May 2013, Akba Jihad Jordan and a co-defendant, Avin Marsalis Brown, spoke repeatedly to an FBI informant about their desire to travel to either Syria or Yemen to fight with a jihadist group.
During these conversations, Jordan and Brown are alleged to have talked about the weapons they owned - including an AK-47 - and to have repeatedly described how they wouldn't hesitate to use them both overseas and in the United States.
Prosecutors alleged the pair were consumed by their preparations to engage in "violent jihad," and that they became even more intent to carry out their plans after the arrest of Basit Sheikh on terrorism charges at Raleigh Durham Airport on Nov. 2, 2013.
Sheikh, who is currently awaiting trial, was boarding a flight to Beirut at the time of his arrest with the alleged intention of traveling to Syria to join terrorists there.
At the time of Sheikh's arrest, Jordon remarked to the FBI informant, "We might be next."
Investigators recovered the AK-47 and other weapons in Jordan's apartment at the time of his arrest.
Brown pleaded guilty in August to one count of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and awaits sentencing.
