NBC Universal Exec Sentenced to 21 Months

MANHATTAN (CN) - The former treasury manager of NBC Universal was sentenced on Tuesday to 21 months in prison for helping his boss, the treasurer, steal more than $800,000 from the company. James Walsh pleaded guilty to conspiracy and wire fraud. Former NBC Universal treasurer Victor Jung will be sentenced on Dec. 11, federal prosecutors said.

Walsh and Jung embezzled the money by taking it from a safe at NBC's Rockefeller Plaza headquarters, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. They also set up accounts in a phony company called NBC Universal Media Productions LLC and wired $813,450 to it, the government said. They used the money to pay off their credit cards, to rent a summer home in Southampton, and on other fripperies.

Walsh, 35, pleaded guilty to an information charging him with conspiracy and wire fraud.

Jung, 36, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy and three counts of wire fraud.
