NBC doctor defamation

WAYCROSS, Ga. — A federal judge in Georgia largely sided with a detention center’s gynecologist, who sued NBC for defamation after it reported he had performed unneeded hysterectomies on immigrant women without consent. Though the report was based on a whistleblower letter and Georgia’s public interest privilege applies to the reports, the doctor alleged actual malice sufficient to remove the protection from four of the five broadcasts at issue.
