COLUMBIA, Mo. (CN) - The City of Columbia denied a permit to a Nazi group that wants to march on Nov. 8, saying the city police force will be occupied at a University of Missouri football game that day.
Steven Boswell applied for a parade and special event permit on behalf of the Missouri chapter of the National Socialist Movement, which wants to march and hold a rally from noon to 5 p.m.
But the Missouri Tigers will host Big 12 rival Kansas State that day and the game is expected to be a sellout. So City of Columbia officials denied the application, saying the police force could not handle the march and the Tigers football game at the same time.
The National Socialist Movement held a rally in Columbia on March 12, 2007. Hundreds of people watched a small number of Nazis march. More than 100 officers kept the peace during that event.
