Navy Retaliated Against Gitmo Defense Counsel, Major Says

WASHINGTON (CN) - The Department of the Navy refused to promote Major Michael Mori to lieutenant colonel to punish him for his zealous defense of David Hicks, the first detainee charged by the military commission created to try detainees at Guantanamo, Mori claims in Federal Court.

Mori claims that after the Navy assigned him and two colleagues to work as defense counsel at Guantanamo, and told the media that all three of them were "top notch," the Navy retaliated against all of them by denying them promotions. Mori claims his promotion board was stacked. See complaint.
