SAN DIEGO (CN) - A Navy petty officer was sentenced to 2½ years in federal prison and ordered to pay $170,000 in restitution for stealing defense materiel and selling it on eBay, and selling home to Hong Kong without a license.
Philip Andro Jamison, 31, a former gunner's mate petty officer first class, pleaded guilty in April to exporting defense goods without a license. He was assigned to the armory at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, in California, where he stole rifle scopes, laser aiming devices and night vision devices. He admitted he sold some of it on eBay and exported night-vision equipment to Hong Kong without a license.
A petty officer is a noncommissioned officer, one rank below chief petty officer.
