(CN) - Federal prosecutors on Wednesday unsealed indictments charging 41 alleged gang members with crimes including drug running and murder, in Los Angeles, Houston, Las Vegas, Kansas City, and Washington, D.C. One hundred twelve people have been charged with gang-related crimes since the federal crackdown began this month.
Prosecutors also have charged gang members in Memphis, Boston, Bridgeport, Conn. and Alexandria, Va.
"Gangs were once found in big cities, but their operations are now migrating to rural areas," FBI Assistant Director Kevin Perkins said in a statement. "The types of offenses gang members commit are also changing, from drug running and petty crimes to home invasions and health care fraud."
