nast-river

Drawn by Thomas Nast in the 1870s, this cartoon was included in a brief by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty in the Supreme Court case Espinoza v. Montana Department of Revenue. The cartoons showcase "both the level of invective that was employed against Catholics and the intricate iconography of the anti-Catholicism of the day," according to the brief.
