N.J. Man Claims C.C. Sabathia’s Dog Bit Him

HACKENSACK, N.J. (CN) - A Westwood, N.J., couple claim a dog with "vicious propensities" owned by Yankees pitcher C.C. Sabathia attacked one of them.

Philip and Christine Epstein sued the pitcher, whose full name is Carsten Charles Sabathia, and his wife, Amber, in Bergen County Superior Court.

The couple claims that Philip Epstein was at Sabathia's home in Alpine, N.J. last September when he "was bitten about his body by a dog owned by the defendants."

The Epsteins say C.C. and Amber Sabathia "knew or should have known of the [dog's] vicious propensities" and alleges that they "negligently failed to control the dog which they owned."

Philip Epstein says that he was given no warning about the dog from the Sabathias and that the injuries he suffered from the dog have left him "damaged and restricted in his bodily movements."

He also claims that he has "missed time from work and consequently suffered lost earnings."

The filing does not specifically say why Epstein was visiting Sabathia's home, offers little in the way of detail on the alleged dog attack.

C.C. Sabathia, a former Cy Young and World Series winner, is entering his seventh season as a starting pitcher for the Yankees this year. According to the publication Bleacher Report, the Sabathias adopted an Old English Sheepdog named Raider in 2012. Raider was featured in a June 2012 article in Bleacher Buzz entitled, "30 of the Most Adorable Pets in Sports."

His agency, Roc Nation Sports, did not respond to a request for comment on the allegations.

The Epsteins seek unspecified damages for negligence, liability and loss of consortium. They are represented in the case by Jason Pullman with Oshman & Mirisola of New York, N.Y.
