N. Dakota Wants To Cut Mine Revegetation Time

WASHINGTON (CN) - North Dakota and Wyoming have proposed amendments to their surface mining control and reclamation programs to the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement.

North Dakota would like the revegetation responsibility period to be reduced from ten years to five years for lands eligible for remining.

Wyoming has proposed numerous revisions and additions to rules on revegetation and cropland success standards, normal husbandry practices, shrub reclamation standards, fish and wildlife enhancement measures, cultural and historic resources, prime farmland, siltation structures and impoundments, and operator information.

Any comments on the proposals are due by March 11.
