LOS ANGELES (CN) - Producers, screenwriters and a director from the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movies sued Fortune Star Media for $3 million on Wednesday.
Producers Kim Lawson, Gary Propper and Anna Cottle, screenwriters Todd Langen and Bobby Herbeck and director Steve Barron say Fortune Star owes each of them 2 percent to 10 percent of the profits for the movies "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," "Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze," and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III," depending on their individual contracts.
The contracts direct the original distributor, New Line Cinema, to pay Singel Films to distribute money to the moviemakers, the lawsuit states. But the plaintiffs say they had to sue Singel in Los Angeles Superior Court, and won a $3 million judgment.
Neither Singel nor New Line are defendants in the instant case.
The plaintiff moviemakers say Singel assigned its rights to the movies to Fortune Star in 2009.
Meanwhile, New Line Cinema merged with non-party Warner Bros., and Warner Bros. assumed distribution rights for the movies, plaintiffs say.
Despite the judgment, plaintiffs say they haven't seen their share of profits. They demand $3.175 million plus punitive damages from Fortune Star.
