Music Distributor License Filing to Be Electronic

WASHINGTON (CN) - The U.S. Copyright Office plans to allow electronic filing of applications for licenses that allow holders to distribute copies of music albums once they have been released to the public.

Electronic filing of so called Section 115 compulsory licenses would only be allowed when the Copyright Office's records do not identify the copyright holder.

The change would allow copyright holders to search electronically for applications to distribute reproductions of their music.

The public has until July 9 to comment on the proposal.
