Kenneth Nolan sued the Florida Department of Transportation in Broward County Court. He also sued Transcore ITS, which he says designed the area's "R.A.D. [roadside animal detection] warning system."
The complaint states: "That on or about March 31, 2012, the plaintiff, Kenneth Nolan, was injured on Tamiami Trail, U.S. 41, near Turner River Road CR 839 due to a dangerous condition to wit: the R.A.D. warning system failing to warn him of a panther crossing. Mr. Nolan was riding his motorcycle west on Tamiami Trail, U.S. 41 near Turner River Road CR 839, and struck a panther, causing him to be injured."
The complaint does not state how the panther fared.
Nolan seeks damages for negligence and liability; his wife seeks damages for loss of consortium.
They are represented by Lawrence Bohannon.
