CHICAGO (CN) - An Illinois woman claims her live-in male au pair fondled her son's genitals and took nude pictures of him, and threw parties at her house while she was away. She is suing the Massachusetts company that matched her with the au pair in Federal Court.
The mother, identified only as Jane Doe, says she learned about Cultural Care Au Pair on the Internet. She claims the company falsely assured her that it would set her up with a live-in au pair "who would be a committed and caring companion" for her 7-year-old son.
Cultural Care matched her with a Colombian au pair named Julian and allegedly promised to put her in touch with Julian's former host family, but never did.
Doe says the company simply explained that Julian's "previous placement did not work out."
She claims she later found out that Julian had been fired by a California host.
She later contacted Cultural Care's program director, Maureen McDonnell, to complain that Julian had been drinking, smoking and throwing parties when she was not home, according to the lawsuit.
McDonnell allegedly placed Julian on a two-week "transition," saying he was "entitled to a probationary period."
During that period, Doe says Julian hit her son, took nude pictures of him, and fondled his genitals and anus.
She claims Cultural Care and its employees should have properly screened the au pair before placing him with her family.
She demands more than $75,000 from Cultural Care, McDonnell and executive Dorte Strobel for negligent hiring, supervision and retention; fraud; and infliction of emotional distress.
Her attorneys are Eugene K. Hollander of Chicago and John Malm of Naperville, Ill.
