Moose Accused of Shuffling Poker Players

FREDERICK, Md. (CN) - What if poker promoters shuffled the players instead of the cards? Texas Poker claims a rival poker promoter and Moose Lodge did that: stole its regular players by sending them text messages falsely claiming that Texas Poker's games had been canceled.

Texas Poker, which runs the Star-N-Bars Poker Series, sued Moose Lodge No. 371 and Mary Hagemann, who runs East Coast Poker Productions, for interference.

Texas Poker claims the Moose Lodge and East Coast sent defendant Robert Pasch to Stars-N-Bars' Texas-Hold-em poker events to get cell phone numbers from players. Pasch then sent the players messages that falsely claimed Stars-N-Bars poker games had been canceled, according to the complaint in Frederick County Court.

"At the same time, the defendants thereafter sent messages to participants of Texas Poker Inc. soliciting players to play poker the Moose Lodge #137, [sic] Frederick, Maryland using confidential information obtained while at Texas Poker events," the complaint states.

Texas Poker claims that Pasch was an agent of either Hagemann or the Moose, or of both of them. It says its business suffered a big hit from the missing players. It wants $100,000 in damages.

It is represented by Timothy Smith of Glenwood, Md.
