(CN) - A manager at a California hazardous waste dropoff site was sentenced Monday to 18 months in prison and must pay $92,000 in restitution after pleading guilty to selling pesticides and ozone-depleting substances over the Internet.
David Grummer, 43, of Oceanside admitted he sold and shipped CFC-12 to people he knew did not have EPA certification for it. He also sold dangerous pesticides such as DDT and Chlordane.
Grummer shipped the compressed gases by private commercial interstate carrier without properly declaring them as hazardous. Grummer got the substances by diverting them at the dropoff site, which cost his employer and other municipalities, including Vista, Poway and Escondido, more than $92,000 in lost revenue.
