Mom Sues Mattel for| Son’s Nose Injury

PITTSBURGH (CN) - A mother claims her 4-year-old son suffered acid burns in his nostril and had to undergo sinus surgery after the battery from a "Rescue Heroes Action Figure" became lodged in his nose and leaked battery acid.

Shannon Anderson sued Mattel and its subsidiary Fisher-Price, claiming the toy's dangerous design caused her son's injuries, including chronic headaches and tooth loss.

She says her son was playing with the toy 8 years ago "when he was able to remove the battery compartment cover."

He "removed the battery and the battery became lodged in minor plaintiff's nose ... causing severe injuries," according to the complaint.

The boy's mom seeks damages for negligence and breach of warranty. She is represented in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas by Wayne Chiurazzi.
