Mom Sues After Charter School Scandal

WASHINGTON (CN) - After a charter school hired a substitute teacher through Craigslist, she gave a student a blow job in her room during a pep rally, the boy filmed it and it went viral, his mother claims in court.

The mother of the 17-year-old boy sued the DC Public Charter School Board and Saving Our Students Through Educational Personnel on March 27 in D.C. Superior Court.

Saving Our Students allegedly hired the sub without properly vetting her, through an ad on Craigslist, which is not a party to the case.

The mother, Jane Doe, says the sexual abuse happened at the Options Public Charter School in October last year. She claims that even a cursory search would have revealed that the teacher, Symone Greene, had been in legal trouble in Baltimore.

Greene, 22, worked for just one day at the school, Oct. 17, 2014, according to the complaint, which describes Options as a public charter school for at-risk youth.

It took Greene just that one day to develop a sexual relationship with the learning-disabled 11th-grade student who served as an office assistant that day, the boy's mother says.

She says that Greene was "flirtatious" with her son, who gave her his cell phone number at the end of the second class he assisted her with. Greene then texted him, and he asked in reply if she was "kinky," according to the complaint.

"Ms. Greene responded to the message saying, 'I don't tell I show,'" the boy's mother says.

The boy went to her room just before 3:30 p.m., as a pep rally was concluding, asked if she would "give him seven sucks," and she "agreed and began sucking his penis in the classroom behind the teacher's desk," according to the complaint.

He recorded it on his cell phone.

Five days later, The Washington Post reported that the video "'has gone viral' within the school community."

The two of them continued to text one another over the weekend, and on Monday, Oct. 20, "the minor agreed to text message Ms. Greene in the presence, custody, and control of law enforcement officials," the complaint states. It says they exchanged 24 texts, and quotes several of the frankly sexual messages. The last message cited in the lawsuit is: "Defendant to victim: This can ruin my whole life. [Name] why couldn't u just keep it to urself".

Police then arrested Greene. Though the age of consent in the District of Columbia is 16, she was charged with first-degree sexual abuse of a minor because she was his teacher.

Defendants include a court-appointed receiver for the charter school. A Jan. 30 letter from the receiver to the "Options Community" states that the school is closing at the end of this school year, but does not say why. Options says on its home page that it is the oldest public charter school in D.C., having opened in 1996.

Doe seeks $3 million in damages for battery and negligence.

She is represented by Governor Jackson III.
