ST. LOUIS (CN) - A woman claims Missouri wrongfully executed her son for a murder due to the St. Louis Police Department's shoddy detective work. Larry Griffin was executed on June 21, 1995 for the 1980 murder of Quintin Moss.
On July 12, 2005, City of St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce announced that she was reopening the investigation into Moss' murder due to new evidence that discredited the state's main witness.
Two years later, Joyce announced that Griffin was guilty, "despite the overwhelming evidence of Mr. Griffin's innocence provided to her office by the NAACP Legal Defense Fund," the complaint states.
Larry Griffin's mother, Mae Etta Griffin, claims the evidence showed her son was innocent. She says he was wrongfully executed.
Griffin seeks damages for wrongful death from the St. Louis Board of Police Commissioners, the City of St. Louis, and Joyce. She is represented by Freeman Bosley with Bosley and Associates.
