Mom Says Foster Kid|Tried to Kill Her

DALLAS (CN) - A foster agency failed to immediately remove a child who threatened to kill a woman from her home, and two weeks later the kid threw hot grease on her, the badly burned woman claims in court.

Kyra Bradley sued Passage of Youth Family Center and its owner Terrance Perkins, in Dallas County Court.

Bradley claims she responded to Perkins' ad for a "House Parent" on Craigslist.

"Plaintiff was interviewed for this job by Terrance Perkins on November 22, 2010, at which time she was notified that the proposed job involved foster parenting in a home provided by Terrance Perkins," the complaint states.

"Under the terms of the agreement, plaintiff would commence the application process to receive authorization from the state to be a foster parent under the auspices of Passage of Youth, Passage of Youth would supply children to fill the foster home.

"Plaintiff would execute a lease for the foster home from Terrance Perkins, plaintiff would receive a per-diem reimbursement for each child, plaintiff would rebate a fixed amount to Terrance Perkins as rent, and defendants would supply beds and other furnishings necessary to accommodate each child."

Bradley says she leased a house in December 2010 and about a year later the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services approved her as a foster mom.

"In late March and/or early April of 2011, plaintiff notified defendants that two of the children placed in her home by defendants formulated a scheme to kill plaintiff," the complaint states.

"Plaintiff requested immediate removal of the children.

"The children were not removed, and on or about April 15, 2011, one of the children assaulted plaintiff by dousing her with hot grease from a cooking pan that had been heated on a stove.

"As a result of the assault, plaintiff received second- and third-degree burns over 25 percent of her body, spent two weeks in the renowned burn center at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, and is left with significant scarring, disfigurement, and pain."

Bradley seeks punitive damages for premises liability, negligence and gross negligence.

She is represented by Brian Butcher with the Noteboom Law Firm in Hurst, Texas.

The complaint does not state what became of the children.
