Mom Claims Coach|Brained Kid With Bat

ATLANTA (CN) - An irate coach hit a boy in the head with a bat during a baseball game, the boy's mom claims in court.

Xavia Stiff sued the alleged assailant, Kornelius Ringfield, on behalf of her minor son, Genes MacAustin, in Fulton County State Court.

She also sued Clayton County, its Parks and Recreation Department, and Detrick Stanford, of the county sheriff's office.

MacAustin's son was playing for the North Clayton Yellow Jackets on April 9, 2012 when his own coach, Ringfield, brained him with a bat, his mother says in the complaint.

She claims that "Ringfield, suddenly and without warning, threw a baseball bat in anger after arguing with an umpire, consequently hitting plaintiff, Genes MacAustin, as he was standing by home plate waiting his turn to bat.

"The plaintiffs did nothing whatsoever to contribute to the incident, but suffered many serious and disabling injuries as a result."

The mom claims that defendant Clayton County negligently entrusted the coaching job to Ringfield, having "actual knowledge that defendant Kornelius Ringfield was ill-equipped to coach a children's baseball team."

She seeks damages for negligence and personal injuries.

She is represented by Russell Deutschman, of Duluth, Ga.
