Modern Rustler Worked on Craigslist

PIERRE, S.D. (CN) - A South Dakota farmhand was sentenced to seven years in state prison - three of them suspended - for stealing his employer's calves and selling them on Craigslist.

Kyle Hall, 27, was accused of stealing 31 calves and selling them locally and on Craigslist. He was tripped up because he also stole tools, which police investigators found in a pawn shop, the South Dakota Attorney General's Office said.

Four of the rustled calves died; the rest were returned to their owner, William Klein, the attorney general said.

Hyde County Circuit Judge John Brown on April 9 sentenced Hall to seven years for grand theft, with three suspended if Hall pays restitution to Klein and the unwitting buyers of the stolen calves.

Neither side immediately responded to requests for comment.
