Mo. Woman Accused of Lunging at Prosecutor

HILLSBORO, Mo. (CN) - A woman has been charged with third-degree assault for allegedly trying to attack a prosecutor who had just obtained a murder conviction against her brother. Prosecutors say Jennifer Davis, 29, lunged for Jefferson County Assistant Prosecutor Rebecca Grosser shortly after the verdict was read.

Davis' brother, Christopher "Ralph" Roberts, was convicted of second-degree murder in the beating death of John Clifford.

Prosecutors claim that Davis started shouting obscenities at Grosser and members of Clifford's family shortly after the jurors left. Davis then allegedly charged Grosser, but was intercepted by deputies. Grosser injured her ankle during the incident, but was not badly hurt, according to Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney Forrest Wegge.

Davis faces up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted. Her brother's sentencing is set for Aug. 31.
