DALLAS (CN) - Ultimate Fighting Championship contender Alistair Overeem was paid after all, as his former managers failed to post a $200,000 bond that would have resulted in his purse being withheld from last Friday's UFC 141 event.
A UFC official told MMAJunkie.com that the bond required to execute a garnishment order was not deposited before the event.
Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer told the website that he did not withhold any portion of the Overeem's purse, as ordered by a Nevada judge in a prejudgment garnishment.
In a lawsuitlast week, Team Golden Glory - Overeem's former fight team - claims the fighter stiffed it for 30 percent in commissions under a management contract, and that he walked away from the deal after it negotiated a new contract with the UFC on his behalf.
Overeem's disclosed pay for the fight was $385,714.28. At the post-fight press conference, he said he had no knowledge of the court order.
Overeem defeated former UFC Heavyweight Champion and former professional wrestler Brock Lesnar by TKO in the first round in the elimination match. Overeem will challenge for the UFC heavyweight title later this year against reigning champion Junior Dos Santos.
