JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (CN) - Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder wants more money, saying he has suffered from "gradual impoverishment" during his decade in office.
Kinder, a Republican, asked the Legislature to put money in the state budget for a daily expense allowance while he works in Jefferson City. He wants the same allowance legislators get, $103 a day.
Kinder is paid an annual salary of $86,000, well above the salary of state legislators, which is $36,000.
He lives in Cape Girardeau, and has a second home in Jefferson City, the state capital.
The estimated median household income for Missouri residents was $45,321 in 2012, according to city-data.com.
