Missouri Judge Frees Man Convicted in 1984 Murder

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (CN) - A judge freed a man who spent 24 years in prison for murder after the judge found the witnesses unreliable. Judge Richard Callahan freed Darryl Burton, 46, after ruling Burton's 1985 trial was flawed.

Burton was convicted of shooting a man to death at a St. Louis-area gas station. The prosecutors' only evidence was the testimony of two men who claimed they saw the crime. But Judge Callahan found them unreliable.
