ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (CN) - In one of his final acts, former Gov. Matt Blunt signed off on $25 million in tax credits for the Kansas City Chiefs. Blunt's term ended at noon Monday and he was replaced by Gov. Jay Nixon, the state's former attorney general.
The tax credits will go toward renovations at Arrowhead Stadium and will subsidize a training camp move from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls to Missouri Western State in St. Joseph.
The move was on top of $50 million in tax credits awarded in 2006 for renovations to Arrowhead and the Kansas City Royals stadium.
Nixon has called for a review of all state credits, but has not said publicly whether his administration would have approved of the aid to the Chiefs. But Nixon does not seem ready to reverse the decision.
"He's not going to second-guess the (previous) administration," Nixon spokesman Jack Cardetti said. "Our job now is making sure we maximize the amount of jobs created and make sure Missourians get the best bang for their buck."
The new $25 million in tax credits were first reported by The Associated Press.
