Missouri AG Wants Prosecutor Yanked

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (CN) - Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster is trying to remove Dent County Prosecutor Jessica Sparks. Koster's office filed six accusations of failing to fulfill her duties, two claims of misusing her office by accusing police of misconduct and one of being involved in a domestic disturbance.

Koster, a Democrat, claims Sparks, a Republican, has come to court unprepared and has 253 pending felony cases that have not been filed or prosecuted.

The petition states that even though Sparks' office recognizes that charges need to be brought in those cases, she has refused to prosecute them because of a budget dispute with Dent County Commissioners.

Sparks has 10 days to respond to the allegations.

Dent County is 125 miles southwest of St. Louis.
