Michael Jackson Sues Auction House Over Publicity on Sale

LOS ANGELES (CN) - Singer Michael Jackson has sued an auction house over an allegedly unauthorized upcoming sale of his personal belongings. According to a complaint filed in Superior Court on behalf of Jackson's loan-out company, MJJ Productions, Inc., Julien's Auction House, LLC has publicized an auction of Jackson's property despite an agreement not to do so without prior authorization.

More than 2,000 personal items had to be removed from Jackson's Neverland Ranch in Santa Barbara County because of a financial reorganization, the suit explained.

The property, which included awards, photos, clothes, furniture, games, cars, and other memorabilia, were turned over to Darren Julien of Julien's Auction House with the understanding that nothing would be sold until Jackson could review an inventory and decide what he wanted to keep, the suit said.

Julien, however, allegedly failed to provide an inventory and has announced a sale of the items. He "has also stated that he was under no obligation to return anything and that his contract entitles him to auction anything he wants."

The complaint was filed by Alan S. Gutman.
