Michael Brown Had a Clean Record

CLAYTON, Mo. (CN) - Michael Brown, whose shooting by a police officer set off weeks of protests in Ferguson, Mo., never had been charged with nor was he facing any serious juvenile charges when he was killed, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

The Post-Dispatch on Aug. 22 filed a petition asking the St. Louis County Family Court to release Brown's juvenile records.

Brown was fatally shot on Aug. 9 by Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson. Weeks of violence followed.

Cynthia Harcourt, an attorney for a juvenile officer in family court, testified to the lack of serious charges on Brown's record during a hearing Wednesday.

Harcourt said Brown had never been convicted of nor was he facing any equivalent of Class A or B felonies at the time of his death, according to the Post-Dispatch.

Class A and B felonies would be open records in Missouri.

Brown's family attorney refused to discuss whether Brown even had a juvenile record and called it an attempt at character sabotage, according to KTVI-TV.
