Mich. Teen Pleads Guilty to Plot to Kill Family

DETROIT (CN) - A Michigan teenager charged with plotting with her boyfriend to murder her family faces 10 to 20 years in prison after agreeing to plead guilty to assault with attempt to commit murder.

Prosecutors charged Roksana Sikorski, 16, who was adopted along with her siblings from Poland, with taking a knife and slicing her brother's throat in October 2014. They believe Sikorski was working in cahoots with her then-boyfriend, Michael Angelo Rivera, 24, in a plot to kill her entire family.

Rivera was convicted on seven felony charges including attempted murder and sentenced to life in prison. He also was later found guilty of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, involving a minor and sentenced to 2 ½ to 15 years on that charge.

Prosecutors originally Sikorski with four counts of conspiracy to commit murder, using a computer to commit a crime and felonious assault, and charged her as an adult. As part of the plea agreement those charges were dropped.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Sikorski's former defense attorney Leslie Posner said the girl suffered from early childhood trauma as a result of her years in a Polish orphanage. Her adoptive parents have been very supportive of her throughout this ordeal.

Sikorski will be sentenced Wayne Circuit Judge James A. Callahan on March 28, a week after her 17th birthday.
