MGM Wants to Close Book on Wayne Newton

LAS VEGAS (CN) - MGM Grand wants out of the middle of attempts to collect on a judgment against Wayne Newton. The hotel requested an interpleader in Clark County Court asking to be allowed to pay the court Newton's $33,000 salary from his Feb. 22 to March 4 concerts and be done with it.

The crooner and "Dancing With the Stars" alum was sued in 2006 by his former pilot, Monty Ward, for unpaid wages. Ward won a $455,250.45 settlement, which accured a daily interest of $126.86.

Ward then slapped MGM Grand with garnishment orders on Feb. 10, requiring the company to forward "all funds due ... each payday in the future up to 120 days."

MGM entered into an "unsigned contract" with Newton's company, Erin Miel Inc., and is now unsure if the money should be paid to Newton or his company, since the agreement calls for payments to be made to the company for Newton's performances over the next few months.

The hotel believes that Newton is the sole stockholder and president of Erin Miel.

It is represented byMartin Kravitz of Kravitz Schnitzer.
