Mexico Extradites Alleged Cartel Leader

MANHATTAN (CN) - Mexico has extradited a suspected leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel to face cocaine trafficking charges in New York. Santiago Chavez-Ayon, an alleged boss in the Sinaloa cartel, has been in Mexican prisons for three years. If convicted he faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years; to secure extradition federal prosecutors promised not to seek the maximum sentence of life in prison.
