ST. LOUIS (CN) - Federal prosecutors have accused 68 people of buying more than 141,000 pseudoephedrine pills to fuel methamphetamine labs in the St. Louis area. In eight indictments in the past six months, the people were charged with conspiracy, possession of pseudoephedrine knowing it would be used to manufacture meth and manufacture of meth.
Investigators used a 2005 federal law that makes it a crime to buy more than 3.6 grams of pseudoephedrine in a day or 9 grams a month - 144 pills. If convicted, each defendant could face up to 20 years in prison.
