Memorabilia Dealer Sues O.J. Simpson

LAS VEGAS (CN) - One of the two sports memorabilia dealers robbed in a hotel room by O.J. Simpson has filed a lawsuit in Clark County Court. Bruce Fromong seeks unspecified damages for assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and false imprisonment against Simpson and his co-defendant Clarence Stewart.

Also sued were the other men present during the heist: Walter Alexander, Michael McClinton, Charles Cashmore and Charles Ehrlich.

Both Simpson and Stewart were convicted in October 2008 on all 12 counts against them, including armed robbery and kidnapping, for stealing sports memorabilia from Alfred Beardsley and Fromong at the Palace Station Hotel in September 2007.

Fromong also accuses Thomas Riccio, a memorabilia broker who set up and secretly tape-recorded the meeting, of fraud.

"Riccio intended to create a dangerous and explosive situation, record it, and sell the recording to the highest bidder," the lawsuit states.

Riccio testified during Simpson's trial that he made $210,000 by selling the secret recordings to the media.

Simpson was sentenced to at least nine years for the robbery. Stewart got at least 7.5 years.

Alexander, Cashmore, Ehrlich and McClinton took plea deals in exchange for their testimony. Riccio was granted immunity for his testimony.

"Defendants pointed their firearms at plaintiff, yelled threats at him, struck him and pushed him, causing plaintiff great bodily injury and emotional distress," the lawsuit states. "They collected the items of memorabilia that were displayed in the room and fled."

Fromong is represented by Elliot Blut of Blut Campain.
