Medicaid data sharing barred

SAN FRANCISCO — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is temporarily blocked from using Medicaid data obtained from California and 19 other states for immigration enforcement purposes, including data already acquired from the Department of Health and Human Services. A federal judge ruled that it does not appear that the agencies carried out “a reasoned decisionmaking process” before making the unprecedented decision to share the data.
