LAS VEGAS (CN) - Three media outlets are trying to unseal search warrants connected to the investigation into Michael Jackson's death. The Associated Press, The Los Angeles Times and The Las Vegas Review-Journal want to see all sealed documents related to the July and August 2009 search of Las Vegas doctor Conrad Murray's home and office, and the pharmacy that allegedly sold the drugs administered to Jackson before his death.
Citing First Amendment rights, plaintiffs want to see not only the search warrants, but also supporting affidavits and lists of inventory seized.
They say judicial records providing a "detailed chronology of the investigation into Michael Jackson's final hours, describing the drugs that allegedly resulted in his death," and Murray's alleged role in administering the drugs were already unsealed in Los Angeles County and Harris County, Texas.
"Because these courts have made public the factual bases for the warrants in two other states...there is no justification for continued sealing of the search warrant materials here," the petition, filed in Clark County Court, states.
Jackson died June 25 of an apparent drug overdose from Propofol, a powerful anesthetic. Coroners later ruled the pop star's death a homicide.
The petition was filed Wednesday by Colby Williams with Campbell Williams.
