Media prevails on cop’s defamation claims

OKLAHOMA CITY — An appeals court in Oklahoma sided with multiple news organizations that had quoted a Tulsa police major who said “we’re shooting African Americans at about 24% less than we probably ought to be based upon the crimes being committed” in a radio interview. None of the descriptions of his remarks were “demonstrably false” nor that the editorial process involved malicious intent.
