Marriage Is Not Witness Tampering

A man was wrongfully convicted of witness tampering after he attempted to marry his girlfriend over the phone while awaiting his murder trial so that she could invoke spousal privilege, a Maryland appeals court ruled. Even if the marriage was a “sham,” no crime was committed.
