Marine Sergeant Ripped Off Uncle Sam

     SAN DIEGO (CN) – A Marine gunnery sergeant at Camp Pendleton admitted he defrauded the United States of $95,000 for bogus housing reimbursements of as much as $3,800 a month.
     Devin Pierre Alario, 40, of Temecula, pleaded guilty to a felony count of making false claims against the United States, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
     Reservists who are called to active duty may qualify for housing reimbursements on top of their basic allowance. Alario admitted that he submitted claims for false reimbursements for 27 months, for as much as $3,800 a month, prosecutors said in a statement.
     He prepared false leases and made up addresses and landlords.
     “All told, he made $95,013.10 from his fraud,” the U.S. attorney said.
     He faces up to 5 years in federal prison and restitution at his July 25 sentencing.
