Manufactured Homes

WASHINGTON (CN) – The Housing and Urban Development Department has regulated the manufactured home industry using a “hands-off” approach to applying uniform standards.

The HUD seeks to encourage states to implement their own installation programs, and the federal portion of the rule concentrates on “assuring a quality end product,” instead of micromanaging installation or requiring certain methods. The HUD will be “collecting certain information regarding the parties’ work,” identifying trends and addressing those areas “on a systemic basis,” according to the preamble to the original proposal.
The rules include qualified installation standards, the licensing and training of installers, and the inspection of the installation of manufactured homes.
