Manafort Makes Deal with Mueller on Conditions of Release

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort has apparently reached an agreement with Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller regarding the conditions of his release.

(CN) - Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort has apparently reached an agreement with Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller regarding the conditions of his release.

In a motion filed Thursday, Manafort's attorney, Kevin Downing, says his client and Mueller have reached an agreement that  would allow Manafort to travel between New York, Florida, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Under the terms of the deal, Manafort will put up four homes valued at about $11.6 million to guarantee he will continue to show up for court proceedings and not flee the country.

A federal judge must now consider whether to approve the deal.

Manafort has been subject to house arrest and GPS monitoring since he was charged with conspiracy and money laundering in connection with Mueller’s investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Manafort and co-defendant Robert Gates have pleaded not guilty to those charges.

Prosecutors convinced a federal judge to deem both men flight risks and both were previously unsuccessful in getting the condition of their release modified. The motion filed Thursday does not apply to Gates, a longtime Manafort business associate.

The homes being put up as collateral include a $4 million in Bridgehampton, New York; a $3.7 million home in New York City's Little Italy neighborhood, a $1.25 million in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; and a $2.7 million home in Alexandria, Virginia.
