Man Wrongly Convicted of Murder Sues

MILWAUKEE (CN) -- A man who served 13 years in prison for a murder he didn't commit has sued Milwaukee, claiming police "manipulated witnesses and fabricated evidence." Chaunte Ott was convicted in the 1995 death of 16-year-old runaway Jessica Payne.

Ott says in his lawsuit filed in Milwaukee Federal Court that police coerced two men to give false testimony that led to his life sentence.

He also says officials then refused to inform him that DNA tests taken after his conviction did not match.

Ott was released in January after an appeals court ruled that he should get a new trial.

Ott does not specify damages in his lawsuit. He is represented by Jon Loevy.
