Man Who Served 26 Years for a Murder He Didn’t Commit Sues Chicago, Police Chief

CHICAGO (CN) - A man who served 26 years for a murder he didn't commit has sued Chicago and its former police commander in Chicago Federal Court. Alton Logan says Chicago's top cop, Jon Burge, knowingly suppressed evidence that Logan says would've proven his innocence.

Logan was wrongly accused of fatally shooting a security guard at a McDonald's restaurant on the South Side of Chicago in 1982.

He was released from prison in April when lawyers for another prisoner revealed that their client had confessed to the shooting. They come forward only after their client died.

"Although plaintiff has won back his freedom, he will never regain the decades lost in his life," the lawsuit states.

Logan is represented by Jon Loevy.
