PONTIAC, Mich. (CN) - A man says he paid Bugatti Automobiles $1,553,355 for a 2009 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Coupe, and it never delivered the car and won't refund his money.
Barry Zekelman says he paid for the car in full, but the Bugatti dealer in Troy, Mich., told him - too late - that Bugatti would not be making any of the 2009 models. Zekelman says the dealer offered him a 2008 model, but he didn't want that; he wanted the car he ordered, in red.
The dealer promised his money would be refunded, but it didn't happen, Zekelman says. He wants his money back, plus interest, costs and attorney's fees. He is represented by Steven Cohen with Cohen, Lerner & Rabinovitz of Royal Oak.
The Bugatti Veyron, one of the most expensive cars ever built, has a reported top speed up just over 250 mph. At 140 mph, hydraulics lower the car to a ground clearance of just under 4 inches, and its spoilers deploy. Tires supposedly will wear out in 15 minutes at that speed, but the fuel will run out in 12, according to Top Gear magazine.

Bugatti apparently planned to make only 300 Veyrons, but stopped production in 2008 after 200 had been made. Defendant Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. is based in Dorlisheim, France.
